Back online

We are now back in Goma after a 10 day holiday across 3 countries. From here, Alex goes back to Bukavu for work and I go to Europe for a few weeks (mostly Germany to be correct ;-)

The holiday started in Goma, which is the Congolese version of French Riviera, with nice hotels and fancy restaurants by the water, and water skiing for the rich & famous.

But Goma is also just under an active volcano (the Nyaragongo) which has destroyed most of the town a few years back. At night, you can see a red light coming from the lava in the crater (feels like Mordor in Lord of the Rings).

It's also in Goma that thousands of refugees have fled after the Rwandan genocide, so it's full of journalists, NGOs, UN staff. But also some good friends of ours like Wim from Belgium.

From Goma, we crossed into Rwanda, to the town of Ruhengeri, in the middle of the mighty Virunga volcano chain to meet the mountain gorillas... don't miss the next episode!
